Come Dine With Us is a social and educational project. It is currently open every Wednesday between 10.00am and 3.00pm and is based in Streatham. It is open to adults with learning disabilities over the age of 16. Participants decide on a menu, draw up a shopping list and go shopping in small groups. They will then prepare, cook and eat a meal as a group. Group members learn useful skills, some of which can help with independent living. The group also provide catering for events and parties.
The Outcome we aim to achieve are
- increased independent living skills through learning to budget, shop, prepare and cook food;
- reduced loneliness through social connection of regular activity and ability to build and maintain friendships;
- increased ability to maintain healthy lifestyle through understanding and acting upon healthy and nutritious food choices;
- increased confidence and self-esteem through learning new skills, improving knowledge of their local community resources, recognition of achievements.
We are currently open to referrals. Priority is given to those who get their adult social care packages with Rathbone or who reside in Lambeth, but we do consider other referrals. Support at the group is provided by Rathbone support workers. Participants with higher needs can bring along a 1:1 supporter.
The cost of attending Come Dine With Us is £5.00 per session for Rathbone adult social care customers.
