Volunteer Youth Worker


Support young people aged 11–25, including those with learning disabilities, through fun, safe and inclusive youth sessions each week. 

Role Description

Job Title: Volunteer Youth Worker

Directly responsible to: Youth Service Manager, Senior Youth Worker

Hours of Duty: As agreed (minimum of 3 hours per week)

Primary Purpose of the Job

In accordance with Rathbone Youth policies and strategies, to work directly with mainstream young people and those with learning disabilities and Autism in the planning and delivery of a programme that challenges, stimulates, and provides new learning opportunities in line with any project or grant specifications.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Work with Young People and Those with Learning Disabilities and Autism

  • Ensure that all work undertaken is participative and actively challenges oppression and discrimination.
  • Work as part of a team in the development of youth work within a project, working directly with young people as directed by the Project Manager or Youth Service Manager.
  • Make and sustain relationships with young people individually and in groups.
  • Work evenings and weekends as negotiated.
  • Ensure maximum access for all young people to youth work provision.

Staff Team

  • Work as a member of the team, sharing ideas and maintaining regular communication with other team members.
  • Undertake negotiated training.
  • Attend required levels of supervision.
  • Assist in project monitoring and evaluation.
  • Attend and actively contribute to regular project staff meetings.

Administration / Finance

  • Assist with monitoring, planning, reporting, and evaluation of youth work sessions or meetings as required.
  • Ensure that all Rathbone financial procedures are adhered to.

Volunteers must carry out their duties with full regard to Rathbone’s policies and procedures, with specific attention to Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, and Safeguarding Policies.
