Youth Voice

Empowering young people to shape our services

Rathbone Youth Services are shaped by the voices of young people. Our Youth Management Teams (YMTs) give young people a platform to share their interests, ideas and perspectives — influencing the decisions that shape their experience and the opportunities available to them.

We believe that when young people are heard, they develop confidence, leadership skills, and a stronger sense of belonging within their community.

Both Central Hill and the Old Library Youth Hubs have active Youth Management Teams. Each YMT plays a vital role in ensuring our youth programmes reflect the needs, priorities, and aspirations of young people in Lambeth.

How it works

Quarterly, during half-term, both YMTs come together to share ideas, discuss organisational developments, and explore topical issues affecting young people.

Recent themes have included social media, local safety, and fundraising initiatives.

Central Hill YMT

The Central Hill YMT is in the early stages, with 6–12 members meeting monthly to represent young voices in both the youth service and the redevelopment of the estate.

The team works with staff to co-design the local youth offer, raise issues that affect young people — such as winter safety and improving the estate’s MUGA — and suggest new activities and projects.

Old Library YMT

The Old Library Youth Management Team (OLYMT) was founded in 2013 by a group of eight young people who wanted their voices to be heard.

Today, it continues to give young people the opportunity to shape programmes, contribute ideas, and be part of youth worker recruitment and decision-making.

The OLYMT meets monthly (or fortnightly when needed) and consists of 6–10 regular youth club members.

Get involved

Young people can join a YMT at either Central Hill or the Old Library Youth Hub.

It’s a chance to develop leadership skills, influence how services are run, and make a real difference in your community.
