Overview

Growing skills, confidence and community

Rathbone Grow is a friendly social and educational gardening project for adults with learning disabilities.

Based near Herne Hill, the group meets every Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm to learn new skills, connect with others, and enjoy the wellbeing benefits of outdoor activity. Members help grow fruit, vegetables and salad on the group’s allotment, and share the harvest.

The group also tends the gardens at Rathbone’s West Norwood offices and supports several local community garden projects. Through these activities, participants gain practical skills that can support independent living — from teamwork and planning to food growing and healthy eating.

Rathbone support workers are on hand throughout each session to provide guidance, encouragement and one-to-one assistance where needed. The sessions are relaxed, supportive and social — a great way to build confidence and connect with the local community.

Who can join

Rathbone Grow is open to adults aged 16 and over with learning disabilities.

Priority is given to people who receive their adult social care package through Rathbone or who live in Lambeth, but other referrals are considered. Participants with higher support needs are welcome to bring a 1:1 supporter.

Cost

  • £8.00 per session for Rathbone adult social care customers

  • £35.00 per session for other participants
