Overview

Building confidence, skills and aspirations

Inspiring Learning is Rathbone’s online study support and mentoring programme for young people aged 11–19 from low-income families, including those on free school meals. The programme runs Monday to Friday, 4:30–8pm, with weekly one-hour sessions delivered one-to-one over Zoom.

Each young person is matched with a volunteer Learning Mentor who supports them in a subject they want to improve. Mentors help with homework and revision, but also build confidence, motivation and belief in what’s possible.

The programme is led by Rathbone’s Youth Engagement Officer, who works closely with local schools to identify young people who would benefit most. After an initial conversation about needs, goals and preferred subjects, the young person is matched with a mentor who is confident in that area.

Our Learning Mentors

Investing in Young People

Learning Mentors are volunteers from the local community who want to help young people thrive in their education. All mentors are DBS checked, provide two references, and receive training and ongoing support from Rathbone. Each mentor chooses the subject and year group they feel confident supporting, so young people receive focused, practical help that makes a real difference.

Mentors commit to at least six months, and young people can stay on the programme for up to one academic year, giving them the stability and time they need to make meaningful progress.
