Adult service
Without Walls
Personalised, one-to-one daytime support for adults with complex needs, focused on meaningful activities in the community instead of traditional day centres.
Is this service right for the person you support?
- Who it's for
- Adults with learning disabilities who have complex needs, including behaviour that may challenge, autism, or significant health and sensory needs. It is designed for people who need a high level of structure and individual support, and who benefit from carefully planned activities outside a centre-based service.
- Age range
- Adults aged 18 and over with a learning disability
- Cost & funding
- Without Walls is commissioned as a specialist service for people with complex needs. Packages are agreed with the local authority and may involve different funding levels than standard outreach, reflecting the level of one-to-one support and planning involved. We can explain the funding model clearly to families and professionals before any placement is confirmed.
- When support is offered
- Support is offered on set days each week, mainly during daytime hours. People usually attend for full-day or half-day sessions on agreed days. Timetables and locations are planned in advance, with flexibility to adapt plans if someone is unwell, anxious or their needs change.

- Active
What difference this service makes
- Provides a high-quality alternative to building-based day services for people with complex needs and behaviour that may challenge.
- Uses Positive Behaviour Support approaches to reduce distress, risk and the use of restrictive practices over time.
- Offers intensive, consistent one-to-one support that can stabilise situations and reduce the likelihood of placement breakdown.
- Delivers meaningful, community-based activity that aligns with national policy on rights, inclusion and choice.
- Supports multi-agency planning around individuals, giving commissioners a clear, specialist option within local pathways.
About this service
This service gives you your own support worker for the day.
You do activities in the community instead of staying in one building.
Your day is planned around what you like, what you need and your goals.
- You get one-to-one support for the whole session.
- Activities happen in the community, not in a big day centre.
- Your plan is based on your interests and goals.
- Staff use Positive Behaviour Support to keep you safe and calm.
- Your plan is reviewed regularly with you and your supporters.
Refer someone to Without Walls
Referrals usually come from social workers and multidisciplinary teams after a detailed assessment of needs. Because this is a specialist service, we normally ask for up-to-date behaviour support plans, risk assessments and relevant clinical information. Families and professionals can contact us to discuss whether Without Walls is the right service and what information is required to proceed.
