For parents and carers
What you need to know
Inspiring Learning offers structured, one-to-one learning support delivered online by trained, DBS-checked volunteer mentors. Sessions are designed to fit around school and family life, and focus on building confidence as well as improving grades. The programme works closely with parents, carers and schools to agree priorities and share progress where appropriate. Safeguarding, online safety and data protection procedures are in place, and parents are given clear information about how sessions run, how to raise concerns and how long support is expected to last.
How to sign up
Young people are usually referred by schools, colleges, parents, carers or professionals who know they would benefit from extra learning support. Referrals can also come through Rathbone’s youth clubs and other projects. Once a referral is received, the Youth Engagement Officer speaks with the young person and their parent or carer to understand needs, subjects and goals, then matches them with a trained volunteer mentor. Participation is voluntary, and young people can help decide what they want to focus on.

What you can expect
Inspiring Learning gives you your own Learning Mentor who will support you with the subjects you choose. You meet online, talk about what you are finding hard and work together on homework, revision and study skills. Your mentor will not judge you or tell you off. They help you break tasks down, understand tricky topics and feel more confident about exams and next steps. You can say what is working and what you want to change. It is your time, and the goal is to help you feel more in control of your learning.
