Who it's for
Young people who already come to Central Hill or the Old Library Youth Hub and want a say in how the service is run. The teams are made up of regular club members: between six and twelve at Central Hill, six to ten at the Old Library. No experience is needed.

What you need to know

Rathbone's youth services are shaped by the young people who use them. Each hub has a Youth Management Team: a group of regular club members who meet with youth workers to share ideas, raise issues, and influence the decisions that affect their experience of the service.

Both teams come together quarterly, during half-term, to share ideas, discuss how the organisation is developing, and talk through issues affecting young people locally. Recent sessions have covered social media, safety in the area, and fundraising.

Taking part builds confidence and leadership skills, and gives young people a real stake in their community.

Speak to a youth worker at Central Hill or the Old Library, or email Charline King at c.king@rathbonesociety.org.uk. No experience is needed. Most members join straight from the regular club sessions.

Central Hill YMT

The Central Hill team is the newer of the two: between six and twelve members, meeting monthly. They represent young people’s views both in the youth service and in the redevelopment of the estate, working alongside staff to co-design the local youth offer, raise the issues that matter to them, and put forward new activities and projects. Recent examples include safety over the winter months and improving the estate’s MUGA.

The Old Library YMT

The Old Library Youth Management Team was founded in 2013 by eight young people who wanted their voices heard. It still does what it set out to do: shape programmes, contribute ideas, and take part in decision-making, including helping recruit new youth workers. The team meets monthly, or fortnightly when there is more to get through, and is made up of six to ten regular club members.

What you can expect

This is your say in how the club runs. If something isn't working, or there's something you want to see happen, the Youth Management Team is where you raise it, and where it actually gets acted on.

You'll help choose activities, plan projects, and shape what the service offers. At the Old Library, YMT members also help interview and pick new youth workers.
